Timeline and Conditions

Selection of Winners

All submitted works will be reviewed in advance. Submissions that meet the technical and content-related requirements will be presented to all members of the jury. In the first round, the jury will select the 40 best entries for the shortlist, focusing on the conceptual message and artistic execution. In a second – and, if necessary, third – round, the top 3 works will be selected by the jury. The winners will be informed prior to the award ceremony. Legal recourse is excluded.

The works selected for the shortlist (places 1–40) will be professionally printed and shown in the Kaktus Cartoon Award exhibition, and will also appear in the exhibition catalogue. All shortlisted artists will receive two complimentary copies of the catalogue. The works on the longlist (places 41–200) will be presented digitally on a monitor at the exhibition.

Copyright & Usage Rights

All participating artists must be the original creators of the submitted works and hold all usage and exploitation rights. By submitting, participants agree that:

– The submitted works may be printed and displayed free of charge as part of the Kaktus Cartoon Award exhibition and the award ceremony – The works may be reproduced free of charge in the exhibition catalogue – The works may be published free of charge in connection with the Kaktus Cartoon Award in media (print and online) for the purposes of media coverage, documentation, and promotion of the award, the exhibition, and the catalogue.

Submitted works will only be used for the purposes mentioned above and will always credit the artist. All other usage requests will be forwarded directly to the respective artist.

We reserve the right to exclude cartoons that promote extremist ideologies and/or violate applicable laws from the award.

Submission Deadline

Submissions are open from Tuesday, 10 June 2025 until Sunday, 9 July 2025. All works must be submitted in digital form via our website by 09 July 2025, 11:59 PM (CET).

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 15 October 2025 at the Schlossmuseum Linz (Austria).

Exhibition

The best submitted cartoons will be presented in an exhibition that will travel to various locations. Opening of the exhibition: Wednesday, 15 October 2025 Venue: Schlossmuseum Linz, Schlossberg 1, 4020 Linz, Austria
